This film falls into the spy-action genre. For a January release, it features some big names like Michael Douglas *<3 Wikipedia <3*, Antonio Banderas, and Ewan McGregor. The lead character, Mallory, is played by Gina Carano.
In real life, Carano comes from a background of Muay Thai Kick-boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, which really comes across in the fight sequences. Unlike some martial artists-turned-actors, she can act. Yes, Dolph "The Punisher" Lundgren , I'm looking straight at you *Further proof: in 2011, he "starred" in the sequel to the aforementioned In the Name of the King...*! Being forced to watch his canon of movies is... well you get the idea, but I digress.
Carano carries the action scenes well, striking a balance between impressiveness and believability. I can see her career possibly growing into the female equivalent of Jason Statham for martial arts action films.
O'erall, I give Haywire a 6.9 out of 10. It would have scored a 7, but I found the pacing a lil' jarring. I could see this movie being spun into a series like the Jason Bourne movies.
